I'm Good, I'm Gone :: Lykke Li

happy tuesday everyone! we're 7 days away from making history, so get your vote on then, or if you can do it now, DO IT!

today's song of the day is by an artist many of us have come to love since we were first introduced to this Swedish indie artist, Lykke Li, this past spring by Kim. well, ever since then, i've been slightly obsessed.

just this morning, as i was searching around for an artist to blog about, i came across this live session of Lykke Li's single "i'm good, i'm gone". i'm a huge fan of live, acoustic performances (duh), and this is what you get from this particular track - a live, acoustic performance. there's something that gives me tingles when you get to hear all the intricate details of an artist's voice and instrumentaling.

when i listened to this song, i thought about all the work that has been done to get out the vote and to help distribute the information about these upcoming elections. politics has been on my brain constantly for the last 6 months...and, in case you didn't know, we are all apart of this election. we all have a vital role - whether it is making sure we get ourselves out to the voting booths, helping to address ingorant, hateful rhetoric, volutneering our time to a local, state, or national campaign, encouraging a first time voter to do their homework, or hosting debate parties - we are all in this game and it's up to us to make sure this election is not a repeat of the last 8 years and 2 elections.

so, hopefully you'll enjoy this wonderful live rendition of another jammin Lykke Li song while you're working on getting out the vote!

GO OBAMA.

The end.
Love,
Meggo.

I'm Good, I'm Gone :: Lykke Li

Steppin', stormin'
I'm all gone
Give me a tone and I'm all gone
Yeah, I'm walkin' by the line
I hear that in my mind

I'm workin' a sweat
But it's all good
I'm breakin' my back
But it's all good
'cause I know I'll get it back
Yeah, I know your hands will clap

Yeah, I'm workin'
Yeah, I'm workin'
To make butter for my piece of bun

And if you say I'm not OK
Then that's the goal
If you say there ain't no way that I could know
If you say I aim too high from down below
Well, say it know 'cause when I'm gone...
You'll be callin' but I won't be at the phone

And you're hanging around 'til it's all done
You can't keep me back once I've had some
Wasting time to get it right
And you will see what I'm about

Yeah, I'm workin' a sweat
But it's all good
I'm breakin' my back
But it's all good
'cause I know I'll get it back
Yeah, I know your hands will clap

And if you say I'm not OK
Then that's the goal
If you say there ain't no way that I could know
If you say I aim too high from down below
Well, say it know 'cause when I'm gone...
You'll be callin' but I won't be at the phone

Fine :: James

happy july 1 everyone! man, i don't know about you, but this summer is going by sorta fast...the first of the month totally creeped up on me! anyway, back to the music...

i came across James when i was at work a couple of weeks ago and listening to pandora.com. this group is from england and has been around for quite some time (since 1981), but they are new to me. this particular song is off their 2001 album, pleased to meet you.

again...following the trend of the season, i feel like this particular song is fitting for summer. when i listened to it the first time, i immediately wished i was just chillin outside in a hammock, with a rum & coke in hand...just laying in the sun. that's what i wish i were doing right now actually...that would be nice...i also felt a similarity between James and Lykke Li, who we have blogged about a while back...these two musical acts fit well together...

anyway, this band has been together a long time, however, after this album was released, the lead singer, Tim Booth, quit the band....but then he got back together with them and is currently working on a new album w/the group!

hope y'all enjoy the song.
the end.
love,
meggo

(cool thing about this picture: it is a composite of all the band members faces! neat, huh?)

Fine :: James

I’m a boomerang
In the outback
Keep your throwing arm steady
So I get home
I’m a vampire bat
Out in shanghai
Haven’t eaten in four days
I’ve ordered in a chinese takeaway

I show more than I hide
I care more than I cry
I’m a phonograph baby
My wires are live
And I’m in crisscross

Fine. I feel fine.

I’m a fortune cookie
Full of cheap advice
I’m a suicide rookie
Blowing last call

Show more than I hide
Care more than I can cry
I’m a phonograph baby
My wires are live
And I’m in crisscross

Fine. I feel fine.

Dance, Dance, Dance :: Lykke Li

Having troubles telling how I feel
But I can dance, dance and dance
Couldn't possibly tell you how I mean
But I can dance, dance, dance
So when I trip on my feet
Look at the beat
The words are, written in the sand
When I'm shaking my hips
Look for the swing
The words are, written in the air
Dance
I was a dancer all along
Dance, dance, dance
Words can never make up for what you do
Easy conversations, there's no such thing
No I'm shy, shy, shy
My hips they lie 'cause in reality I'm shy, shy, shy
But when I trip on my feet
Look at the ground
The words are, written in the dust
When I'm shaking my hips
Look for the swing
The words are written in the air
Dance
I was a dancer all along
Dance, dance, dance
Words can never make up for what you do
Dance, dance, dance

Little Bit :: Lykke Li

I love Scandinavians. And Lykke Li is no exception - her voice is like sugar, her sound is like soda pop. With a kick. Like really bitey ginger ale.

Her songs are simple, but contain little surprise elements that make them intriguing. The lyrics are coy, and I really enjoy the mix of unusual sounds and strong percussive quality of the bass lines layered with her childlike voice. For lack of a more intellectual analysis, it just sounds cool. As a side note, I also love her overall look - her style, her album art, her webpage design - simple but with attention to little twists and details. Very much in line with her sound.

I'm featuring "Little Bit", from her recent release Youth Novels. This won out over "Breaking it Up" because it had sweet videos, and I felt like offering a multi-media experience of Lykke Li. So look up "Breaking it Up" and listen to it!

Here's the "Little Bit" video for your viewing pleasure:

Bonus! "Little Bit" on the streets of Stockholm. Wonderful.

Lyrics:
Hands down
I’m too proud for love
But eyes shut it’s you I’m thinking of
But how we move from A to B
It can’t be up to me
Cause you don’t know
Eye to eye
Thigh to thigh
I let go.

[[Chorus]]
I think i'm a
Little bit
Little bit
A little bit in love with you
But only if you're a
Little bit
Little bit
A little bit in la-la-la-la-love with me, oh oh

Ooh ooh ooh ooh-ooh

And for you I keep my legs apart
And forget about my tainted heart
And I will never ever be the first
To say it but still I get over
Ah ah ah

I will do it,
Push button,
Pull trigger,
Climb mountain
Jump off a cliff 'cause you know baby
I love you love you a little bit
I would do it
I would say it
You’d mean it
I could do it
If it was you and I only and I -

[[Chorus x 2]]

Come here
Stay with me
Stroke me by the head
Cause I would give anything
To have you as my man

Come here
Stay with me
Stroke me by the head
Cause I would give anything
To have you as my man

[[Chorus x 3 and to fade]]
