This is just an all-around great song. I remember liking it a lot when I was a kid (I think I was 9 or 10 when it came out). I remember sitting in our hot little Ford Tempo car on summer days, and this song would come on, and I would feel free.
I also played this song a lot at the Haymarket, when I was going to school in Decorah, Iowa. Every time I went up to the jukebox, I had to put on a couple Tom Petty songs, because I knew Sarina liked them (and oh, how I did anything that girl wanted...)
The last few months have been really frustrating for me- just feeling totally claustraphobic and boxed-in, like all I've wanted to do is throw bottles against walls. But the last month, I've been voluntarily transient, and I've never been happier. I'm living simply and treading lightly and not taking myself too seriously. I haven't been tied down to much in the last month and I feel really free.
Enjoy.

I Held Her in My Arms :: The Violent Femmes

Sorry for so many "golden oldies," people! It seems as though nowadays I am more oriented to the past. I think it's because my life is very much in transition and it's easier for me to think about the past than deal with the present.
Anyway, I am going to share this very special song with you. And I'll let you know that this is no ordinary song for me. I cannot hear this song without feeling a wave of pleasurable tension washing over me. Yes, I said "pleasurable tension." In my mind, this song is permanently fused with the feelings I had the first time another girl and I got all cuddly. We were drunk, it was our freshman year of college... it was magic. But mostly in my mind. And this song was playing on the stereo.
I can't even remember
If we were lovers
Or if I just wanted to
But I held her in my arms
I held her in my arms
I held her in my arms
But it wasn't you

Lyrics:
Im gnawing on the knowledge
That I have been burnt
And Im learning things that i
Shouldve already learnt
Everyone I ever knew
Was so kind and coy
I was with a girl
But it felt like I was with a boy
I cant even remember
If we were lovers
Or if I just wanted to
But I held her in my arms
I held her in my arms
I held her in my arms
But it wasnt you
I will not kill
The one thing that I love
In this world of wreckage
I look above
Help me lord
Help me understand
What it means to be a boy
What it means to be a man

The Blood :: The Cure

Sorry for yet another "Golden Oldie."
This is from off of "The Head on The Door." When Robert Smith sings, "I am paralyzed by the blood of Christ..." he is singing about the pain of his alcoholism. I love this song for the lyrics, the great imagery, and the flamenco influence. The video is cool too- it reminds me of some old Bunuel film from the 60s.

Tell me who doesn't love
What can never come back
You can never forget how it used to feel
The illusion is deep
Its as deep as the night
I can tell by your tears you remember it all
I am paralysed by the blood of Christ
Though it clouds my eyes
I can never stop
How it feels to be dry
Walking bare in the sun
Every mirage I see is a mirage of you
As I cool in the twilight
Taste the salt on my skin
I recall all the tears
All the broken words
I am paralysed by the blood of Christ
Though it clouds my eyes
I can never stop
When the sunsets glow drifts away from you
You'll no longer know
If any of this was really true at all

anyway, i want to talk about a (new to me) band that my roommate passed onto me. this group is called Mute Math and they're from New Orleans, Louisiana. if you have a special place in your heart for the 80's and the music that era produced, then you will hopefully dig this group!
this group caught my attention upon the first 4 seconds of hearing them for many reasons, including the following:
a driving drum beat
catchy lyrics and melody
kickin bass lines
sweet guitar licks
counting out loud
and last but not least...a keyboard guitar
hopefully y'all will enjoy this song and this band as much as i do. special shout out to my roommate for passing this group onto me!!
the end.
<3,
meggo.
or...check out this sweet live video!

Careful when you open
It's easy to be broken
In the strangest fashion
You start a chain reaction
When you look my way
Something's pounding away
And I wonder if I ever felt this before
And all this time oblivious to what you make so obvious
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before
You are reaching for something that is beating
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before
Over and again racing out of my skin
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before
At least it was never until I noticed you
And your ways capture what I've misplaced
In the perfect fashion
Just watch my hearts reaction
This point of view is nothing that I'm used to
But I won't close my eyes cause they're onto you
And all this time it was staring me blind
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before
You are reaching for something that is beating
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before
Over and again racing out of my skin
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before
At least it was never until I noticed you
Woah-oh
The only time I ever noticed my heart was when I noticed you-yeah
The only time I ever noticed my heart was when I noticed you-yeah
You-yeah, you YEAH!
1-2-3!
You are reaching for something that is beating
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before
Over and again racing out of my skin
I can't believe I never noticed my heart before
Till I noticed you-yeah
I noticed you-yeah
You, yeah
When I noticed you-yeah
I noticed you-yeah
That's the only time I ever noticed my heart before
Check out more Mute Math!!!
